Beware . . .

lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power.

Colossians 2: 8-10

Hi there!

G. Zeineldé Jordan (“Jordan” to anyone who knows him) warmly welcomes you to his portion of Theism.net.

I am a former atheist (personal testimony). I am now a saved, born-again, baptized, evangelical follower of Jesus Christ, and remain a critic of organized religion. That is not to say I oppose organized religion; I merely harbor concerns about its potential to sway many from following Christ in their allegiance to church hierarchy. I also remain a freethinker.

This site offers compositions regarding theism versus atheism. It links to sites from both camps and cross-references them to specific items currently debated. My intention is to stimulate your thinking and encourage you to reexamine the skeptics’ presupposed irrationality of Christianity, particularly the Resurrection.

Until my acceptance of Jesus Christ, I described myself as a practicing atheist/philosophical agnostic for about fifteen years. Beginning in 1990, I became active in atheism via American Atheists, later, via the Freedom from Religion Foundation, and The Atlanta Freethought Society. I often dropped memberships then re-joined due to conflicts between my political libertarianism and the mainstream politics other members often supported.

I am a former member of West Cobb Baptist Church in Powder Springs, Georgia (March, 1998. through Summer 2001). Throughout that membership, I simultaneously attended Cumberland Community Church (CCC). CCC, located in Smyrna, Georgia, is an evangelical, inter-denominational church that is part of the seeker church movement spawned from Lee Strobel’s Willow Creek ministry in Illinois. At CCC I attended apologetics classes led by Donald Dicks of ACAP (Atlanta Christian Apologetics Project), William Lane Craig, Mark Linville of Atlanta Christian College, Senior Pastor Peter Grant, and other local or visiting apologists such as J.P. Moreland.

After relocating down to LaGrange, Georgia in Troup County, I discovered another Willow Creek congregation, New Community Church (NCC) where I plan to remain an on-going visitor.

My Position

Nearly all New Testament scholars, regardless of their theological leanings, agree:

a. Jesus Christ existed.

b. He faced crucifixion.

c. The crucifixion KILLED Him.

d. By Godly hook, earthly crook, or whatever, there was and remains no known available body.

e. Jesus' followers saw (or believed or lied they saw) SOMETHING they believed to be a risen Jesus.

A missing body and convinced followers do not a resurrection make. Therefore, I ask the skeptic to outline the rest of the story. Joint hallucinations: Where is the psychological evidence? Persecution of persons who knew they had asserted lies. Where is the psychological evidence? Legends formed in decades, not centuries: What of historians’ criteria regarding legends?

Theistic, non-theistic, and anti-theistic scholars agree on the above points. Who amongst us possesses greatest insight?

About Scholarship

I have presented "New Testament scholars." Scholars are individuals whose works are read, used, and learned from by academia, not pop readership. Also, they are fully studied in the archaeology, languages, anthropology, and history pertaining to New Testament times. By these criteria, Dan Barker, Pat Robertson, Josh McDowell, and Madalyn O’Hair are not New Testament scholars, unlike William Lane Craig (Christian) and Gerd Lüdemann (non-Christian), with whom colleagues of various theistic persuasions agree regarding the above points. Anyone arrogant enough to claim superior knowledge to the scholars hails from an interesting breed indeed.

Rules of Engagement

Non-Christians are welcome to challenge my position and be included in the debates section. The rules of engagement follow:

1. Stick with the Resurrection. It is pivotal.

2. Read the current debates in their entirety to avoid repeating issues already debated.

3. Do not criticize my referenced material you have not read in its entirety.

4. Avoid ad hominem (personal) and red herring (diversionary) tactics.

5. Do not apply a double standard. Apply the same rules of measure to both positions.

6. Only one debate will be undergone at a time.

7. Ask yourself if you are guilty of this or this

8. Before your submission is considered, it MUST meet the above requirements. It will be challenged before you make print.
